Karen first joined ISU as an instructor in the College of Engineering in 1991. She held numerous positions within the College of Engineering, including serving as the Manager of Undergraduate Programs for five years. In 2002, Karen moved to the position of Director of the Program for Women in Science and Engineering (PWSE). As part of a Office of the Provost reorganization in 2004, Karen added the position of Director of Undergraduate Support Services within the Office of the Provost to her responsibilities with PWSE. Within the Office of the Provost, Karen provides support and leadership for initiatives focused on undergraduate education, including liaison roles to several university committees.
Prior to joining ISU, Karen was employed seven years as an engineer for various companies associated with AT&T. Karen earned her B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University in 1983, her M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1989, and her Ph.D. from Iowa State University in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (Higher Education) in 2002.
