Melinda is a communications specialist for the budget model team in the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. She joined the Office of the Provost as a half-time employee in August 2006.

She has worked as a freelance writer/editor, education consultant, public relations professional and writer/editor. She has worked for Des Moines Area Community College, the National Pork Board, DTN/FarmDayta and Futures World News.

At Iowa State University, she earned a bachelor of science degree in agricultural journalism (1989) and master of science degree in agricultural education, with a minor in technology and social change (1995).
