Report from work group on Deans' Offices: Organization and Operations
The work group has met two times and had lengthy and productive discussions. We identified the following
tasks to be undertaken by the group.
Workgroup Tasks
- Examination of current staff structure (office organizational charts)
- Brief job descriptions for each staff member
- Examples of other Dean's Offices organizational charts
- Functional responsibilities of Deans Office
- Determine number of positions and roles to be filled
- Selection procedure to fill positions
- Timeline to fill positions
- Physical location of Dean's Office
- Budget process and categories
- Philosophical and operational comparisons
- Other items?
We have focused on the first four items, accomplishing these tasks:
- examined current office structure (organizational charts) from both Deans' offices
- obtained brief job descriptions for each staff member
- gathered information on Deans' office structure from all ISU colleges
- prepared a matrix of all functional responsibilities of the Deans' offices and of all positions in both
colleges see attached file.
We will have each person complete the matrix of functional responsibilities for their own job. Based on this
information, we have begun envisioning the structure of a new dean's office.
The work group will continue meeting and working throughout the summer.
