3. Questions

How is outreach, Extension, service and engagement the same and or different.

SERVICE - All faculty have service as part of their job descriptions in both colleges.

OUTREACH - Some faculty have outreach as part of their job description. Outreach is not unique to ISU but is a commitment of all three regent institutions.

EXTENSION - Extension is unique in Iowa to ISU, in that ISU is Iowa's land grant institution. Some faculty in FCS are paid by Extension funds and have percentages of time devoted specifically to Extension appointments. Currently there are no Extension funded faculty in CoE. Extension is a three way partnership among federal, state and local government. ISU E has Extension offices and staff in every county in Iowa. ISU Extension builds partnerships and provides search based learning opportunities to improve the quality of life in Iowa. We believe in quality, access, diversity and accountability. We are dedicated to engagement, entrepreneurship and local presence.

ENGAGEMENT - a term used in the current ISU Strategic Plan, along with Discovery and Learning to describe the work that we are about.
