Name and Mission Workgroup Minutes
May 5, 2004

Present: Ann Marie Fiore (co-convener and recorder), Jerry Thomas (co-convener), Julie Bundy, Barb Licklider, Mary Linnenbrink, Kevin Saunders, Jeanne Warning.

  1. Introductions by each member were made.

  2. The co-conveners identified the two main tasks of generating a mission statement and proposing a name. They provided copies of the charge from the Planning Committee and copies of college summary pages with mission statements. Discussion on how the workgroup's tasks related to the possible configuration of one dean overseeing two colleges and the strategic plan ensued. Co-conveners presented background information on previous discussions with the Provost and President including discussion on how this consolidation will lead to reallocation of funds back to a combined college versus savings for the University.

  3. The suggestion was made that the college consolidation Q&A information on University websites should be updated to reflect one, current view.

  4. Co-conveners proposed a plan of action for developing a draft of the combined college mission statement, which entailed individual mission statement writing for integration by the workgroup with a preliminary workgroup draft being brought to the Planning Committee for input before gathering input from stakeholders. June 1, 2004 is the deadline for individual workgroup member drafts to be sent to Jerry Thomas.

  5. Jeanne Warning will send the FCS extension mission statement to the workgroup.
