Administrative Internship Program
Administrative Internship Program, 2006-2007
Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
May 2006
The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost is pleased to announce the appointment of three interns in its Administrative Intern program. The program goals are 1) to provide senior faculty and staff with the opportunity to broaden their understanding of and experience in higher education administration, and 2) to diversify the administrative leadership on campus.
This program is a response to recent on-campus studies and an extension of prior successful programs. In the spring of 2003, the "Report from the Taskforce on the Recruitment and Retention of Women and Minority Faculty" and the "Report on Women's Leadership at Iowa State" (studies at http://www.provost.iastate.edu/faculty/diversity.html) both recommended that an administrative internship program be initiated to encourage a more diverse leadership at the university. This recommendation is clearly a way to develop the leadership training previously underway on campus. From 2001-2004, the Office of the Provost joined with the Kellogg Commission to support the Shared Leadership for Institution Change (SLIC) initiative, which offered year-long leadership training to over 90 women and minority faculty and staff on campus.
The following individuals have been selected for our third year of internships for 2006-2007:
Jim Dickson, College of Agriculture
Barry Falk, Provost Office - Honors Program
Carolyn Cutrona, Provost Office - NRC Ranking Project
Frankie Santos Laanan, Provost Office - ADVANCE Grant
During the next academic year, each intern will take on special duties in the administrative office in half-time appointments. A full description of the internship program is available on the Provost's web site, at http://www.provost.iastate.edu/positions/
