  1. Committee
    1. The nominees for the Regents Awards will be selected by the Faculty Senate Committee on Recognition and Development.
    2. The committee will select five nominees for the award. The Executive Vice President and Provost will supply the committee with a list of up to twelve nominations from the list of persons nominated by their respective colleges.
    3. The Faculty Senate Committee on Recognition and Development will send its nominations to the Faculty Senate Executive Board, which will forward the nominations to the University Executive Vice President and Provost (for transmission to the President) by April 5, 2010.

  2. Criteria
    1. Above all else the faculty member nominated for the Regents award must be an outstanding university citizen.
    2. In attaining this distinction, the faculty member must have rendered significant service to Iowa State University and/or to the State of Iowa. The faculty member must have distinction in a minimum of two of the following four areas: teaching, research/creative activity, extension/professional practice, or service.
    3. More than 50% of each nominee's responsibilities must be faculty, not administrative, duties.
    4. Each nominee must be a currently active tenured faculty member who has been employed in a tenure-track position at Iowa State University for a minimum of fifteen years by the date the award is made.
    5. Distinguished Professors, University Professors, and faculty members holding titled professorships are not eligible for this award.

  3. Nomination Process
    1. Late in the Fall Semester, the Executive Vice President and Provost will contact the Deans and ask for each college to work with chairs and faculty to develop nomination packets for faculty in their college. The Executive Vice President and Provost will ask that each college forward at least one nomination and that larger colleges forward two or three.
    2. The Executive Vice President and Provost will collect nominations and forward up to twelve nominations to the Senate Committee on Recognition and Development by March 8, 2010.
    3. The Committee on Recognition and Development will forward its recommendations to the Senate Executive Board, which will recommend the top five faculty to the University Executive Vice President and Provost (for transmission to the President) by April 5, 2010. The Senate will also recommend which nominations should be carried over into the next year.

      • A letter of nomination, no longer than two pages, which clarifies how the nominee meets the criteria for the award.
      • An up-to-date Vita.
      • Optional: up to five additional pages of relevant supplemental materials including letters of reference.
      • Letters should not be solicited from persons outside of the university.

    Each college will forward the nomination(s) it endorses, in unranked order, to the Executive Vice President and Provost.

  5. Selection Process

    The Committee on Recognition and Development selects the nominees from the names forwarded by the Executive Vice President and Provost on the basis of the criteria listed above using procedures determined by the Committee on Recognition and Development. The Committee will also recommend which nominations should be carried over into the next year. The Senate Executive Board ratifies these nominations and forwards them to the Executive Vice President and Provost (for transmission to the President) by April 5, 2010. The President makes the nominations to the Board of Regents.


  6. Notification Process

    The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost will coordinate with the President's Office the notification of the winners. Recipients and their department chair and dean are notified in mid-April. Only nominators receive notice of unsuccessful nominations. The Executive Vice President and Provost will also notify colleges about faculty not selected for the award and will indicate which nominations should be re-submitted the following year.
