Planning Process for Developing the Strategic Plan for 2010-2015
The Iowa State University process for developing its next strategic plan began with a memo from the President in July 2008. From there, the Executive Vice President and Provost developed a plan, identified leaders and proposed a timeline. The process is being overseen by the Strategic Planning Steering and Writing Committee, which held its first meeting on July 23, 2009. This committee includes the leaders of four task forces, one for each area identified in President Geoffroy's memos:
- Be a magnet for attracting truly outstanding students
- Be a magnet for attracting world-class faculty and staff
- Be known around the world for our significant impact in addressing the major problems facing our planet
- Be a treasured resource for Iowa, our nation and the world
Process begins
- July 2008
- President asks Executive Vice President and Provost to lead university community in developing the Strategic Plan for 2010-2015.
- August 2009
- President updates his advice to the Executive Vice President and Provost.

Forums, drafts
Faculty, staff and students will play an important role in developing the next plan. The university community is invited to participate in open forums, to be invited to review drafts of the report, and to provide feedback on them.
The open forums are scheduled for:- September 3, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., Memorial Union Gold Room Comments
- September 10, Noon to 1 p.m., Memorial Union Cardinal Room Comments
Plan approval
The Strategic Plan Report for 2010-2015 will go to President Geoffroy by June 30, 2010. Then, the plan will be submitted to the Board of Regents for approval.
