Shawn Marie Boyne
Director of Academic Quality and Undergraduate Education
Shawn comes to the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost from Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law where she served as a Professor of Law as well as a faculty fellow in Indiana University's Office of Planning and Institutional Improvement. She received the Rabb Emison Award from the Indiana State Bar Association for her efforts to promote diversity and equality in the legal profession. During the 2018-19 academic year, Shawn served as an ACE Fellow in residence at James Madison University. A scholar of comparative law, she is the author of The German Prosecution Service: Guardians of the Law? (Springer 2014) as well as over twenty-five law review articles and book chapters. In addition, she was twice selected to present her work in progress at the Society of Comparative Law’s annual works in progress workshop.
In her current role, Shawn provides leadership and coordination within the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost for academic program effectiveness including program review and accreditation, undergraduate student success initiatives, and outcomes assessment. She serves as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission as well as a mentor for the HLC’s Assessment Academy.
Shawn has attended several land grant institutions- earning a B.A. cum laude from Cornell University, an M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. (political science) from the University of Wisconsin. Prior to entering academia, Shawn served as a child abuse and sex crimes prosecutor in the State of New Mexico and subsequently as a criminal defense attorney. She is a graduate of University of Southern California Gould School of Law and holds an L.L.M (German Law) from Justus Liebig Universitäet in Giessen, Germany.
In her spare time, Shawn enjoys Pilates and bike riding.
