Undergraduate Programs and Success Initiatives
At Iowa State, our number one strategic priority is to ensure that students receive an exceptional education. To ensure that we achieve that goal, the University sponsors a wide range of initiatives which aim to increase student access to high-impact practices, boost our retention and graduation rates for all students, and ensure that all students successfully transition to campus life.
As highlighted in the 2016 National Survey of Student Survey Engagement High Practices report (PDF), Iowa State University first-year students and seniors participate in high impact practices at a significantly higher rate than other AAU or Carnegie Research Intensive Universities. In fact, nearly 75% of Iowa State's undergraduate students (PDF, 164KB) participated in two or more high impact practices during the last three years via their coursework or co-curricular involvement.
Initiatives to Boost Retention/Graduation Rates and Maintain Academic Quality
Our efforts to ensure that our students succeed and graduate span a wide spectrum of programs and give us the opportunity to put our ingenuity to work. As an example of the impact that these programs have, thanks to faculty adopting open educational resources (OERs) for their courses, ISU students saved more than $2 million on textbooks and other course materials last year.
