Programming is designed to support and assist these academic leaders with preparation for the unique opportunities and challenges they might encounter in their roles.

Programs include:

  • Leading for Department Success Series: The goal of the Leading for Department Success Series is to provide department chairs/school directors with valuable information and useful resources to assist them in their work. The workshops seek to build a community of practice for ongoing information sharing, problem solving, and support. All department chairs/school directors and associate/assistant chairs are strongly encouraged to participate; deans are invited to attend. Presentation titles and learning objectives will be included in the meeting invitation two weeks in advance of the scheduled workshop. See 2026-2027 schedule (DOC)
  • Virtual chairs' chats: Chairs' Chats are used for delivering timely information, soliciting feedback, addressing topics of interest, and simply connecting. These virtual meetings take place on the first Wednesday of each month, September through April. There is no Chairs' Chat meeting in January. Chairs' Chats are 50 minutes long, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Presentation titles and learning objectives will be included in the meeting information two weeks in advance of the scheduled Chairs' Chat.
  • New academic leadership bootcamp: Recently appointed deans, department chairs/school directors, associate chairs, and center directors are invited to participate in meetings that introduce them to policies, practices, and people instrumental to a successful year in administration. The schedule is emailed to participants.
