Description

Background: The purpose of the Marvin A. Pomerantz Endowment for Faculty Enrichment, established in 1992, is to provide monies for additional support to faculty deemed outstanding in their position responsibilities which may encompass teaching, research, service, professional practice, and/or outreach and extension. 

Criteria: Faculty nominated for this award must exemplify outstanding accomplishments in teaching, research, service, professional practice, and/or outreach and extension. Nominees must hold the rank of tenured professor or associate professor and must have served for at least five (5) years on the Iowa State University faculty prior to the beginning of the academic year in which they are nominated. 

Number of awards: Up to five (5) awards will be conferred annually.  

Award Details: A one-time award of $5,000 will be awarded to up to five (5) faculty members representing the breadth of Iowa State University’s academic disciplines. The stipend must be used by the awardees for furtherance of scholarly activities in research, teaching, service, professional practice, and/or outreach and extension. The actual amount of the award will depend on the available amount of expendable cash earnings in the endowment.

Each academic college dean may nominate up to three (3) eligible faculty for this award.  

Award Selection Process:

Each academic college dean shall submit to the provost a concise memo summarizing the process used to determine the college’s nominee(s) and a nomination packet for each nominee that highlights the nominee's accomplishments in teaching, research, service, professional practice, and/or outreach and extension.

Nominations shall consist of the following items organized in one PDF and in the order listed: 

  • Cover sheet (DOC)
  • Nomination letter [no longer than two (2) pages] that summarizes how the candidate meets the award criteria
  • Nominee statement [no longer than three (3) pages] that describes how the nominee will use the award stipend. Nominee must include a concise budget for the use of the funds.
  • Nominee’s current curriculum vita

Nominations are due to Rachel Haynes (rhaynes@iastate.edu) in the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost by May 1, 2026. Award decisions will be communicated by June 1, 2026.
