Assistant Provost for Faculty Development
Tera Jordan is the Assistant Provost for Faculty Development at Iowa State University. Appointed on January 1, 2020, she is responsible for supporting the ongoing development of programs and policies that increase faculty success at Iowa State. These efforts include, but are not limited to, providing leadership for ISU ADVANCE initiatives and the Faculty Work/Life Advisory Committee; diversifying the faculty pipeline; broadening participation in faculty life through work-life integration; creating a welcoming campus; and working closely with university leaders to promote faculty success and advance academic excellence in furtherance of Iowa State’s strategic goals.
Jordan joined the Iowa State faculty in 2012. She is an Associate Professor of Human Development and Family Studies. In research, she practices engaged scholarship to connect with underrepresented families and study contemporary issues in family health and well-being. In instruction, Jordan has taught Advanced Qualitative Methods, Mixed Methods, and Family Communications and Relationships. In service, Jordan has chaired faculty and staff honors and awards committees at the department, college, and university-level. Jordan is an active member of four university councils/committees across graduate education, undergraduate research, and athletics. An award-winning scholar, the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, the College of Human Sciences, and Iowa State have honored Jordan’s dedication and commitment to teaching and mentoring, community engagement, and diversity enhancement and inclusive excellence.
A proud native of the Hoosier state, Jordan received a B.S. from Indiana University – Bloomington in Applied Health Science after majoring in Human Development and Family Studies and minoring in Psychology and Sociology. Jordan earned a M.S. and Ph.D. in the dual-title program of Human Development and Family Studies and Demography from The Pennsylvania State University. She then completed one year of postdoctoral work at the Center for Family Research at the University of Georgia (UGA) and worked as a Research Scientist in the Owens Institute for Behavioral Research at UGA for seven years.
